Horizontal and Radial Spreading of Water in Soil on Drip System

Abstract

Indian economy in mainly dependent on agriculture, and water is the major agriculture input for crop production hence irrigation play an importance role in increase crop production. This study was carried out to determine the effect of radial and horizontal water movement of soil in different dripper at a 12 mm lateral. The experiment was operated for 1 hour irrigation and the latter sample of soil were collected in three depth 0–10, 10–20, 20–30 cm and also three distance at below the dripper, 4 cm and 8 cm to the center of dripper and the moisture sample taken in various time just after irrigation, 6 hours after and 24 hours after irrigation and the graph plot in surfer 8 software. For that field capacity, bulk density and permanent wilting point were 24.25%, 1.42 gm/cc and 10.10% respectively. The drip irrigation save water and directed to root crop zone. The result show that moisture content was more on surface just after irrigation but there was movement on moisture from surface to root zone depth and nearly content moisture i.e. up to field capacity was maintained in root zone. Better result was obtained for 4 lph dripper on 12 mm lateral.
