Abstract

Biochar is a charcoal like substance which is rich in carbon, obtained from biomass through pyrolysis process relatively at temperatures (<600°C). In this present study, the highly carbanoeus biomass materials such as coconut shell, casuarina and Prosopis glandulosa were used to produce biochar. Based on the bulk density, different combinations of the feed stocks were taken and the biochar was produced in the slow pyrolyzer unit for mass optimization. As a result, coconut shell biochar with a mass optimized ratio of 1.5: 1 shows a maximum yield of about 0.450 kg.
