The present study was carried out in order toquantify the effect of Guar gum and Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) polymer application on the seepage loss of soil under Ponded conditions at 0.1% Concentration i.e., 0.1% by weight of water were used. The Guar gumand Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) polymer are water soluble, economical and easily available in powder form polymer, physiologically inert & biodegradable in nature and do not produce any harmful effect when used on soil. The experimentation was carried out under actual field conditions at Pantnagar. Three small trapezoidal farm pondshaving 50 cm base width, 70 cm top width, 20 cm depth and 1: 2 (H: V) side slope were constructed, the polymer in solution form was applied on twoponds while the other pond was kept as control i.e., without polymer treatment. The observations were recorded just after pouring the water in the ponds. The water starts seeping into the soil and the rate of seepage was obtained by constant head method at regular time intervals by recording water level with the help of measuring scale inserted in the center of pond. The readings reveal that the polymer treatment of sides and bottom ofthe pond at 0.1% concentrated solution of Guar gum and Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) polymer resulted in reduction of seepage losses in ponds. However, the Guar gum polymer was found to be more effective.
