Evaluation of Mid Early Duration Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Hybrids for Genetic Variation for Grain Yield and Quality Characters

Abstract

Fifty five rice hybrids were evaluated during kharif 2011 for variability for grain yield and quality characters. Adequate variability found among the rice hybrids for 13 characters. High GCV and PCV was observed for number of spikelets per panicle, number of tillers per hill and number of panicles per hill and low values of GCV and PCV was observed for days to maturity. All characters exhibited high broad sense heritability. High heritability along with high genetic advance as percent of mean were observed for number of spikelets per panicle, suggesting the scope for rice improvement.
