Evaluation of Plant Products and Antagonistic Microbes Against Leaf Blight (Alternaria alternata), A Devastating Pathogen of Tomato

Abstract

The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of seven different oils, six different plant product extracts and six different antagonistic microorganisms on leaf blight of tomato, Alternaria alternata. Results revealed that eucalyptus oil and neem oil (0.05%) showed 98.1% and 94.3% inhibition of mycelial growth over control, respectively. But both of them at 0.1% showed 100% inhibition for the pathogen. Similarly, plant extract cocklebur and citroid fruit showed lowest mean disease index, 0.11 and 0.12, respectively at 96 h over control. Among the different antagonistic agents Trichoderma viride showed 71.9% inhibition of mycellial growth over control.
