Impact of Sewage Water Treated by Phytorid Wet Land Technology on Leafy Vegetables

Abstract

Looking to the importance of applicability of treated sewage water the study was undertaken to investigate the possibilities to provide a simple, feasible, ecofriendly, maintenance free and cost effective technology. Sewage treatment plant has established for the sewage water treatment of Nag nalla at Maharaj Bagh Nagpur for the irrigation purpose. The analysis of sewage water of Nag nalla at different location was done to find out the seasonal content in the sewage water and possible contamination of treated sewage water by Phytorid wet land technology on leafy vegetables and soil. The change soil status was studied by analyzing in chemical and physical properties of the soil. The treated sewage water samples were analyzed to see the purification efficiency of sewage treatment plant. This treated water was used to irrigate the leafy vegetables (Spinach and Fenugreek). The minor contamination of treated sewage water was observed in Spinach and Fenugreek and also in the soil. Increased growth and yield response of crops to treated Sewage water was found over well water. The treated sewage water showed the higher performance of Phytorid technology from 60 to 100% in removal of pollutants. From the result it appears that Phytorid wet land technology is appropriate and useful to treat the sewage water for irrigation. However it needs further more investigation to use treated sewage water to irrigate the leafy vegetables.
