Management of Root rot disease (Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid.) of Chick pea (Cicer arietinum L.) using Antagonists in vitro

Abstract

Seven antagonists Trichoderma harzianum Bissett Rifai., Trichoderma viride Pers, ex. Grey, Trichoderma faciculatum Rifai., Trichoderma longibrachyatum Rissett, Aspergillus niger Link., Pseudomonas fluorescens Migula. and Bacillus subtilis Ell. with three different methods viz., dual culture, pathogen at periphery and pathogen at centre were tested in vitro for evaluating their efficacy against M. phaseolina causing root rot of chickpea. Among all tested antagonists, Trichoderma harzianum Bissett Rifai. (Navsari isolate) and Trichoderma viride Pers, ex. grey (Navsari, isolate) showed highest inhibited growth of the pathogen in all methods viz., dual culture, pathogen at periphery and pathogen at centre and proved to be highly effective against the pathogen of root rot disease.
