Genotype × Environment Interactions and Stability Analysis for Grain Yield and Protein Content in Grain Amaranth (Amaranthus hypochondriacus L.)

Abstract

The objective of this study was to present the results of experiment conducted on 40 genotypes of grain amaranth (Amaranthus hypochondriacus L.) for four environment i. e. rabi, 2010–11 (E1) at Lucknow, kharif and rabi, 2011–12 (E2 and E3) at Lucknow and rabi, 2012–13 (E4) at Allahabad and their pooled data. Across four growing environments genotypic variability, monitoring of phenotypic variation and genotype by environment interaction (GEI) for grain yield per plant and protein content was studied. GEI was tested using Eberhart and Russell (1966) stability model. The pooled analysis of variance for grain yield per plant and protein content over four environments revealed significant difference among genotypes for grain yield per plant. Env + (Gen. x Env.) was found significant for grain yield per plant, where as protein content is non-significant. Both linear and non-linear component of environment was found to be significant for grain yield per plant.
