Abstract

The lack of vegetable cultivation in urban areas of Kerala is mainly due to limited area for cultivation. Terrace cultivation of vegetable crops is gaining popularity because of unavailability of area and health concerns. The objective of this study was to standardize a soilless media and nutrient schedule for organic vegetable production (grown in containers). Ordinary potting mixture, neopeat and soilless media with five different combinations of composts and cow dung, were combined to formseven treatments with bhindi variety Varsha Uphar. The yield of bhindi in soilless media composed of coirpith compost and Farm Yard Manure (2: 1) was found to be superior and on par with ordinary potting mixture. The nutrient scheduling study showed that 125% of recommended dose of fertilizer gives better result.
