Abstract

An injection system introduced to the micro irrigation system called airjectionirrigation is able to inject micro bubbles of air into the water feeding the Sub-Surface Drip Irrigation system (SSDI). The input of air into the ground through an irrigation system is a technique for improving the crop production capacity for anoxic soils, fine-textured soils, and salty soils. In these soils, the crops can show signs of intolerance by wilting, insufficient development, increased susceptibility to illness, etc. In general, an insufficient quantity of oxygen in the root zone leads to the reduction of productivity of the crops. We studied the growth performance and yield of radish crop by the air injector in sub surface drip irrigation system. The air injector has been installed in sub main line. The experiment laid airjection irrigation system for 6 rows and control drip irrigation system for 6 rows in the study area. The observation during the study period shows that there is an increase in crop yield. The airjection irrigated plants recorded a higher yield of 9.87 per cent than control drip irrigated plants. The causes of increase of yield are due to the abundance of oxygen in the rhizosphere by the airjection irrigation system which also makes facilities for the improvement of the absorption of nutrients by the roots.
