Mungbean, [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] also known as greengram, is one of the important legume crops grown in India. The heterosis for grain yield and nine yield components of 30 F1 hybrids were derived from crosses between six lines and five testers of mungbean genotypes. Two hybrids viz., CO 7 × VBN (Gg) 1 (38.81%) and K 1 × VBN (Gg) 1 (26.21%) have recorded significant heterosis over the standard variety VBN (Gg) 1 for all the characters studied except days to maturity and plant height respectively. The hybrids VBN (Gg) 3 × VBN (Gg) 1 and CO 4 × VBN (Gg) 1 showed significant standard heterosis for eight traits. These crosses were heterotic for grain yield, also showed heterosis either for one or more characters. Thus the crosses CO 7 × VBN (Gg) 1 and K 1 × VBN (Gg) 1 for grain yield could be considered for exploiting hybrid vigour in mungbean.
