Relative Efficacy of Insecticides Used as Seed Treatments with and without Rhizobium inoculation Against Stem fly, Melanagromyza phaseoli Tryon in Vegetable Pea

Abstract

All the insecticides under test used as seed treatment without Rhizobium inoculation were found effective in reducing plant infestation caused by stem fly (Melanagromyza phaseoli) and recorded lesser number of nodules, fresh and dry weight/plant. But Thiomethoxam (25WG) @12.5g/kg seed and Profenophos (50EC) @1.5ml/kg seed gave poor performance in minimising pest infestation and recording lesser number of nodule/plant, fresh and dry weight/plant. Performance of Carbofuran (3G) @15g/kg seed + Rhizobium culture remained unaffected and showed better performance in minimising plant infestation (14.40%), number of nodule (19.53/plant), fresh weight (62.20/plant) and gave highest pod yield (21.56q/ha) as compared to other treatments.
