Abstract

Banana is second important fruit crop of the country with good export potential. Banana rank second in production of different fruits in the state; however the productivity of this important crop in Chhattisgarh state is yet to be increased to compare with the productivity of Maharashtra and Karnataka states which requires extensive use of modern production, marketing facilities, processing industries and storage technologies. The study is relied on the response collected personally from 30 Banana growers, selected purposely from four villages of Raipur district of Chhattisgarh state. It was found that, most of the respondent belonged to other backward caste, school educated and were having large size of land holding. They were mostly performed irrigated agriculture with an average area of 2.17 ha. under Banana cultivation, overall on an average cropping intensity was observed to be 259.89 per cent. The economics of Banana cultivation shows that farmers were investing about Rs. 117934.4 per ha. The average productivity was obtained 38.55 tones/ha. with ascending trend from small to large farmer. Similarly, the average net income was obtained about Rs. 251480.73 per ha. with 1: 3.28 average input output ratio. Break-up of total cost, cost concept wise income over different cost involved in Banana cultivation was also computed.
