Abstract

Okra ravaged by many insect pests from germination to harvest. Sucking pests in the early stage and the fruit borers, Earias vittella in the later stage causes extensive damage to fruits causing 69 per cent yield loss. In recent years, increased interest has been shown towards biological control following unsatisfactory results with the application of conventional insecticides. Hence, investigations were carried out to assess the potential of Trichogramma parasitoids and insecticide control against okra fruit borers, the results suggested that significant differences were observed between the treatments. The fruit infestation ranged from 8.08 to 22.74%, with highest fruit infestation was recorded in control (22.74%), followed by T. chilonis (15.29%) and chlorantranniliprole treatment (11.32%). However, minimum fruit infestation was recorded in T. chilonis + chlorantranniliprole treatment.
