The study was conducted to identify the tolerant/resistant onion varieties purple blotch disease caused by Alternaria porri with high yield potential for two seasons. The genotypes were sown experimental in medium black soils at Main Agriculture Research Station (MARS), University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, Karnataka during 2014–15. The mean sums of squares were highly significant for all the characters studied among the genotypes. The results of both the seasons indicated that Bellary Red, L-819 and Arka Kalyan as resistant for onion purple blotch with less incidence of disease (1 grade), whereas, Anand-2 (grade 4) and Agrifound Dark Red (grade 3) were susceptible and moderately susceptible respectively. However, all other genotypes exhibited moderate resistance.
