Influence of Glomus macrocarpum and Fluorescent pseudomonads on Growth and Yield of Chilli (Capsicum annum L.)

Abstract

The major microorganism which have important role in improving the plant growth by AM fungi and fluorescent pseudomonads is well documented. Certain plant growth promoting rhizomicroorganisms had been reported to enhance the activity of AM fungi and consequently plant growth. The use of AM fungi along with fluorescent pseudomonads has enhanced the plant growth and yield of chilli. Among the various AM fungi Glomus was the dominant genus and its effect on growth of chilli variety Byadagi dabbi showed increase in growth, flowering and fruit production and also increase in P uptake. Fluorescent pseudomonads produce numerous metabolites such as plant growth regulators and vitamins, and which affect the growth of plants. The highest yield parameters of chilli was recorded like plant height (43.16 and 85.17 cm), shoot length (33.41 and 60.57cm), root length (14.46 and 25.33cm) and green chilli yield (250.05 g/plant) at flowering and harvesting in treatment (T3) inoculated with Glomus macrocarpum and Fluorescent pseudomonads with 50% rock phosphate. Also highest content of plant nutrients was recorded at flowering and maturation in treatment T3 inoculated Glomus macrocarpum and Fluorescent pseudomonads with 50% rock phosphate.
