Field experiments were conducted in the Soil and Water Management Research Institute, Kattuthottam, Thanjavur of Cauverynewdelta during Rabi 2013 and Kharif 2014 to study the performance of different establishment methods, residue incorporation and nitrogen for rice cultivation. The experiments were laid out in Strip-split plot design with four replications. Short duration rice variety ADT (R) 45 was used as a test variety in the study. The treatments consists of unpuddled machine planting and puddled manual transplanting in strip plots, without residue and with residue (15 cm) at split plots and basal N dose at (0, 15, 30 kg ha−1) in sub plots. The ammoniacal N and nitrate N (38.63 and 10.33 ppm) was maximum at the fourth week after planting The grain yield was maximum (5.79 t ha−1) for the manual planting with residue and with basal application of 30 N kg ha−1 and the ammoniacal N and nitrate N was minimum (29.53 and 6.69 ppm) at the first week after planting lowest yield was obtained at machine planting unpuddled without residue and without Napplication (4.27t ha−1)in kharif2014
