Effect of Various Carbon and Nitrogen Sources on Mycelial Growth and Sporulation of Fusarium moniliforme Causing Bakanae Disease in Paddy

Abstract

Laboratory experiments were conducted to study the effect of various carbon and nitrogen sources on mycelia growth of different isolates of Fusarium moniliforme from infected paddy Cv. Khandagiri grown in different agroclimatic zones of Odisha. The test fungal isolates were identified and the morphological study on colony growth, colour and conidial size was evaluated. Among different media tested, Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) supported highest radial growth and sporulation followed by Malt extract agar(MEA) and Oat meal agar(OMA) medium. Maltose as carbon source contributed for the highest biomass and sporulation followed by glucose and dextrose in different isolates of Fusarium moniliforme. Among nitrogen sources glycine was found to be most preferred source followed by ammonium sulphate and sodium nitrate.
