Abstract

In the present investigation efforts had been made to find out the relative tolerance of some newly developed hybrid variety of potato against late blight disease caused by Phytophthora infestans. Among the twelve potato varieties J/95–242 was found to be highly resistant to late blight, however, J/96–171, J/95–221 and J/95–229 were found resistant. The variety J/96149 was moderately resistant while rests of the varieties were susceptible to the disease. The results evidently showed that the yield of different hybrids varied between 9.540 (J/95–242) to 2.200 (Kufri Pukhraj) t/ha and the tuber infection varied from 0–3.88% in the variety J/95–242 and J/96–84 respectively. The results revealed that the hybrids which were less infected with the disease gave better yield compared to the susceptible ones.
