A field experiment was conducted at WALMI campus, Dharwad during rabi/summer season of the years 2011–12 to 2014–15 to study the response of groundnut to different methods of surface irrigation. Four different methods of surface irrigation ie., broad bed and furrow, border strip, check basin and conventional flooding method of irrigation were studied and compared in terms of crop yield, water saving, water productivity and its economic feasibility. Based on the mean data for four years, higher groundnut yields were recorded in case of broad bed and furrow method of irrigation (25.55 q/ha) followed by border strip (22.45 q/ha) and check basin (20.04 q/ha) as compared with conventional flooding method (18.07 q/ha). Substantial saving in irrigation water was achieved in case of broad bed and furrow method (37.43%), border strip (30.18%) and check basin (13.75%) method of irrigation as compared with conventional flooding method. Higher water productivity, better benefit-cost ratio, maximum net income and net profit per cm of water used was also achieved in case of broad bed and furrow followed by border strip and check basin method of irrigation as compared conventional flooding method of irrigation.
