Abstract

Present investigation was undertaken to study the marketing and price spread of wheat in Amravati district. A study of the agricultural marketing system is necessary for understanding of the complexities involved and the identification of bottlenecks with a view to providing efficient services in the transfer of farm products from producers to consumers. The existing marketing channels were Channel I: Producer Consumer, Channel II: Producer → Retailer→Consumer, Channel III: Producer→ Wholesaler→Retailer→ Consumer. During the course of investigation it observed that channel III i.e. was the major channel of distribution. In channel I quantity of wheat sold was very low and this channel was mainly followed by small farmers. per quintal marketing cost incurred by producer were 48.50, 81.68, 90.65 in channel I, channel II, channel III, respectively and per quintal net price received by producer was 1306.50, 1263.32, 1219.35, respectively. Per quintal purchase price of consumer was 1355.00, 1425.00 and 1450.00 in channel I, channel II and channel III, respectively. Producer's shared in consumer's rupees in channel I was 96.42 per cent, in channel II 88.65 per cent and in channel III it was 84.09 per cent.
