Abstract

Screening of NRPS gene clusters is useful in understanding the pharmaceutical potential of cyanobacteria. The study revealed 63.6% prevalence of NRPS positive cyanobacteria in tropical water bodies of Varanasi city, India. Phylogenetic studies using microscopic and 16S rDNA sequence analysis revealed that these NRPS positive isolates are not genus specific, but widely dispersed among common bloom-forming cyanobacterial genera. Further, seasonal variation and the physico-chemical factors affect the growth of these NRPS positive cyanobacterial isolates.
