Evaluation of Benefits of Scientific Package of Practices of Castor Under Front Line Demonstration

In the majority of the area of south Gujarat, castor is grown in late kharif or in rabi season with neither improvedvarieties nor with recommended practices. The Pulses and Castor Research Station, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari has organized 84 numbers of front line demonstrations with improved variety along with recommended practices for castor cultivation on the farmers’ fields under All India Coordinated Research Project on Castor scheme during rabi season of 2009–10 to 2013–14. The results showed the 24 per cent yield increases with Rs. 14, 937/ha additional net returns were obtained by the farmers by adoption of scientific package of practices for castor cultivation over local/farmers practices on average basis of five years study. This indicated possibility to raising 20 to 25 per cent yield of castor in south Gujarat through adoption of the scientific package of practices recommended for castor cultivation.
