Screening of Phyllosphere Yeast Isolates for Biocontrol Activity Against Soil Borne Plant Pathogens

Abstract

A laboratory experiment was conducted at Department of Agricultural Microbiology, University of Agricultural Sciences Bengaluru for Screening of yeast isolates for biocontrol activity against soil borne plant pathogens. In this totally 15 yeast isolates were isolated from collected leaf samples from Hassan district. Results showed that the maximum yeast population was observed on the phyllosphere of Artocarpus hirsutus (3004.5 cfu/cm2) and the minimum yeast population was recorded in the phyllosphere of Swietenia mahagoni (148.6 cfu/cm2). Among 15 yeast isolates tested the yeast isolates, HAP1-III showed maximum of 33.33 per cent inhibition on Fusarium sp., 21.42 per cent on Rhizoctonia solani and 21.66 per cent on Pythium sp.
