Abstract

Amylose content (AC) and resistant starch (RS) are important biochemical component to determine digestibility of the starch. These two fractions of starch lower the glycemic response, because of slow release of glucose in our small intestine. With this objective this study was carried out to isolate high AC and RS germplasm lines in 20 selected genotypes. The AC and RS content varied from 20 to 33.84 and 1.12 to 12.62 respectively. Among genotypes studied Kuzhiyadichan showed higher AC (33.84%) and RS content (12.62%). The lowest value for AC and RS recorded in Swarna (20%) and IR30155 B (1.12%) respectively. Correlation study clearly showed that there is a significant positive correlation between AC and RS with an r2 = 0.38). Hence, analysis of AC and RS content in germplasm lines which help to develop a rice varieties with altered starch composition.
