New Report of Pentatomid Bug, Cyclopelta siccifolia Westwood (Dinidoridae: Heteroptera) Infestation on Pigeonpea in Gujarat, India

During field visit at farmer's field in Tapi district of South Gujarat ecosystem, adults of pentatomid bug, Cyclopelta siccifolia (Westwood) (Dinidoridae: Heteroptera) were observed to feed on pigeonpea in kharif 2013–14. Both nymph and adults were found in colonies congregating on main stem, side branches and rachis of leaf; suck the sap and ultimately plant shows wilt like symptoms. The maximum population of nymph and adults of C. siccifolia was observed on main stem than side branches and leaf rachis. The peak population (192.2 and 1.4 nymph and adult) was observed during first fortnight of October on main stem and leaf rachis, respectively. Whereas, in case of side branches it was observed peak (21.2) during second fortnight of September and thereafter declined. This is the first report of infestation of these bugs on pigeonpea in this ecosystem.
