Evaluation of Sweet Potato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.] Genotypes for Yield and Processing Traits

Abstract

A set of 12 genotypes of sweet potatoes were evaluate for tuber yield and its processing traits at Research and Instructional Farm, Department of Horticulture, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) during the rabi season of 2013–2014. Observations were recorded on fourteen characters. The analysis of variance revealed that there were highly significant (p<0.05) differences among the genotypes for all the characters except vine diameter and weevil infested tuber. According to mean performance of the sweet potato genotypes in respect to tuber yield per hectare IGSP-20 (37.33 t/ha) was found significantly superior than the other genotypes evaluated. Organoleptic evaluation of the tuber of all sweet potato genotypes were done by a panel of five members and identified IGSP-20 best for chips, IGSP-C-15 for batata sack and candy, Indira Naveen for rabdi respectively. Hence these identified genotypes/varieties can be popularized among the farmers, farm women and consumers for specific processing purpose.
