Abstract

Demand for organic foods is partially driven by consumer's perceptions that they are more nutritious. However, scientific opinion is divided on whether there are significant nutritional differences between organic and non-organic foods, although reviews of multiple studies show that organic varieties do provide significantly greater levels of vitamin C, â-carotene, vitamin E, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus than nonorganic varieties of the same foods. Studies also showed higher amount of phytonutrients, antioxidants and phenolic compound among organic foods. While being higher in these nutrients, they are also significantly lower in pesticide residues.
