Abstract

Growing of flowersandgardening have been practiced in India for many centuries. The demand of flowers is increasing in local as well as in national and international market. Growing flowers on commercial base is a recent trade. The demand of flowers is increasing in local as well as in national and international market. Nowadays, commercial flower growing is an important export oriented business fetching high returns and also earning a lot of foreign exchange. The world market has been expanding around 12 per cent each year (Anonymous, 2006). The purpose of this study was finding out the constraints and to determine the suggestions for solving the problem faced by the marigold growers regarding adoption of improved technology in the villages of Dahod district of Gujarat. Major important constraints faced by the farmers in adopting marigold cultivation were adverse effect on flower quality by adverse weather sometimes, fluctuation in price of marigold, unavailability of improved seeds of marigold, high cost of insecticide and pesticides. Informationabout marigold cultivation should be made available at proper time by extension personal, Various production inputs in sufficient amount should be made available in time were important suggestion to overcome the constraints in adoption of improved technology of marigold cultivation.
