Abstract

The physical properties of carrot seeds were studied to determine their suitability for mechanical metering. The physical properties namely size, shape, sphericity, thousand seed weight, angle of repose, true density, porosity, bulk density and coefficient of static friction were measured for two commercial varieties of carrot seeds i.e. Nantes (TE) and New Kuroda(NK) cultivated on hilly regions of Tamil Nadu. The geometric mean diameter was 1.08 and 1.11 mm for TE and NK varieties and the average values of angle of repose were 34.5 and 32.3 respectively. The values of porosity are nearly same for the TE and NK varieties.
