Survey for the incidence of insect pests of gum guar [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (Linn.) taub.] in North-Eastern dry zone of Karnataka

Abstract

A survey was conducted in six different Agricultural Research Stations (ARS) of University of Agricultural Sciences Raichur located at Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Koppal, Bellary, Raichur and Bidar during kharif 2014 to know the level of incidence of insect pests encountered in Gum guar. During the survey, the observations on insect-pests were made from 25 days old crop growth to pod maturity stage. The main pests were fleabeetle (F: Chrysomellidae), leafhoppers (Amrasca biguttula biguttula, Empoasca spp), aphid (Aphis medicaginis), leafminer (Liriomyza trifolii) and whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). Early season pests viz, fleabeetle, leafminer, whitefly andaphid were recorded during vegetative stage of the crop growth whereas, leafhoppers appeared during pod development stage of the crop.
