Abstract

Multi-locus analysis using Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) was used to assess the genetic diversity of thirteen genotypes of Solanum melongena (2n=24) and one genotype of Solanum aethiopicum (2n=24). The ISSR produced a specific clustering pattern, which revealed that ISSR marker had high discriminating potential among the different genotypes. It may be considered as an efficient marker technique for genetic diversity study of Solanum genotype. Furthermore, genetic similarity coefficient revealed variability within the Solanum melongena, whereas, a wide range of dissimilarity between Solanum melongena and Solanum aethiopicum.
