Variability for different characters in sunflower was studied using four crosses in F3 generation viz., COSF 1B × HO 5–7, COSF 1B × HO 5–13, TNHSF 239-61-2-4-1 X HO 5–7 and TNHSF 239-61-2-4-1 X HO-513. High PCV and GCV was exhibited by seed yield per plant, oleic acid and linoleic acid content for all the crosses which indicated that the presence of considerable variation in these characters. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as per cent of mean for the traits viz., seed yield, oleic acid content and linoleic acid indicated that additive gene action controlling these traits.
