The experiment was conducted during the summer seasons of 2008 to 2010 in split plot design. The treatments consisted of nitrogen substitution with organic manures as main plot treatment viz., M1 - 12 t ha−1 FYM+ 50: 8:25 kg ha−1 NPK (Nitrogen substitution with vermicompost), M2 - 12 t ha−1 FYM +50: 8:25 kg ha−1 NPK (Nitrogen substitution with coirpith compost) and M3 - 12 t ha−1 FYM + 50: 8:25 kg ha−1 NPK (Recommended dose of fertilizer of Kerala Agricultural University as control) and with and without arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi as sub plot treatment. Maximum yield and yield attributing characters and B:C ratio of bhindi were obtained by the application of 12 t ha−1 FYM + 50: 8:25 kg ha−1 NPK (nitrogen substitution with vermicompost) combined with AMF inoculation or application of 12 t ha−1 FYM + 50: 8:25 kg ha−1 NPK along with AMF inoculation
