Nine hitherto unreported polypores from Odisha; Eastern Ghats of India

Abstract

The eastern ghats are isolated hill ranges in Peninsular India harbors primarily tropical moist deciduous vegetation which represents species of high economic, timber, medicinal potential, Lies in 11 30′ to 21 0′ N Latitudes and 77. 22′ to 85 20′ E Longitudes. The eastern ghats in Orissa starts from North of Similipal in Mayurbhanj districts and run through Malkangiri. The average annual rainfall is 1485mm. The maximum temperature goes upto 42 degrees and the minimum temperature falls upto 5 degrees. the relative humidity is normally high during the monsoon and post monsoon months. Sometimes being more than 85% which favors the growth of mushrooms. During the course of field survey, seven new species of family Polyporaceae i.e. Fomitopsis pinicola, Lentinus fusipes, Lentinus tubergium, Lenzites betulina, Microporus xanthopus, Polyporus sulphureus, Pyconoporus cinnabarinus, Trametes versicolor were reported from the surveyed area. These species were identified on the basis of macro and microscopic characteristics and are first records from Odisha.
