Constraints Perceived by the Livestock Beneficiaries of Rkvy Project in Adoption of Scientific Management of Pregnant Dams and Calves for Strengthening Livelihood

Livestock provides livelihood support to the millions of poor household. It becomes the best insurance for farmers against vagaries of nature like drought and other natural calamities. The present study was carried out to find the constraints perceived by the livestock beneficiaries and and seek the suggestions offered by them to overcome these constraints in practicing the management of pregnant dams and calves, scientifically. The study was conducted in Navsari district of Gujarat state. Considering the potentiality of Gandevi, Jalalpore and Vansda talukas of the Navsari district, nine villages were selected in toto for the present study. Proportionate random sampling method applied to obtain the 100 respondents from the obtained lists. The study was found that out of different constraints, concentrate feeds and mineral mixture are costly (81.00 per cent) was perceived by the livestock beneficiaries as main constraint then high cost of veterinary service and medicine (78.00 per cent) followed by high construction cost of cattle shed (75.00 per cent), non availability of green fodder round the year (69.00 per cent) and lack of timely artificial insemination facility in village (64.00 per cent).
