Carotenoid pigment producing yeast Sporobolomyces sp. produces carotenoid pigment, was isolated from phyllosphere surface of rice plant and its optimal physicalconditions were studied under submerged fermentation. Optimum pH and temperature for total carotenoids production were determined as 5.0 and 25–30°C with an incubation period of 96 h produced the highest quantity of biomass and carotenoids respectively. Agitationspeed from 150 to 200 rpm min−1 was optimum for carotenoid pigment production. However, light was not a limiting factor for thegrowth and pigmentation of the yeast.
