Cadmium and Micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu) Uptake by Fodder Maize (Zea Mays L.) Influenced by Different Levels of Cadmium and Farm Yard Manure Grown in Loamy Sand and Clayey Soils

Abstract

A pot experiment was conducted at the Deptt. of Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry, B.A. College of Agriculture, AAU, Anand during summer season of 2013 to study the effect of different levels of Cadmium and FYM on cadmium and micronutrients uptake by fodder maize grown in texturally two different soils. Treatments were comprised of five level of Cd (0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 ppm) applied as 3CdSO4.7H2O and two levels of FYM (0 and 10t ha−1) applied on two types of soil (Loamy sand and Clayey soils). Result revealed that with increasing rate of Cd, cadmium uptake by plant parts was increased while micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu) uptake were reduced but application of FYM reduced toxicity of Cd and increased micronutrients uptake by maize plant parts. In clayey soil plant components has higher micronutrients uptake as compared to loamy sand soil.
