Study on the Participation of Women Members in Panchayati Raj Institution

Abstract

The study was conducted in Akola district of Maharastra. For present study 100 women members were selected from Akola Zilha Parishad, Akola Panchayat Samiti, Murtizapur Panchayat Samiti and eight Gram Panchayat from each Akola and Murtizapur Panchayat Samiti by using random sampling method, for identification of extent of participation of women members in Panchayati Raj Institutions by using exploratory design of social research. It was observed that 63.00 per cent women members found to be in a young age category i.e, up to 35 years, whereas 44.00 per cent having education up to college level. Most of the respondent (94.00%) belonged to married category. 58.00 per cent belongs to joint family size Majority of the respondent (62.00%) did not have any political experience.66.00 per cent respondents had high level of extension contact. Great majority of the respondents (78.00% and 98.00%) had high level of knowledge about working and functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions and low level of extent of participation in different activities of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
