Pathogenecity and Screening of Varieties of Brinjal against Phomopsis Blight Caused by Phomopsisvexans

Abstract

Screening trail was carried out to test different methods of pathogenicity and reaction of different varieties against frit rot disease. Pathogenicity trail was conducted using four different methods viz., knife injury, cork borer injury, carborandom powder injury and pin prick injury. All the method of inoculation were effective but inoculations made by cork borer method were used in screening. Screening trail was carried out using five brinjal varieties viz., Suratiravaiya, Bilimorabhadtha, GBL-2, NSRP-1 and AB-08-5 against fruit rot in laboratory. Out of five varieties screened, none of the variety was found free from the disease under artificial conditions. The fruit rot incidence was recorded ranging from 36.62 to 79.83 per cent in all the varieties tested. The popular variety, Surati Ravaiya had the highest fruit rot. NSRP1 variety was found susceptible, whereas Surati Ravaiya and Bilimora Bhadtha were found highly susceptible.
