Production Potential and Completion Indices in Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) + Cabbage (Brassica oleracia var. capitata) and Clutser Bean (Cyamopsis tetragonalobus) Intercropping System in Chhattisgarh Plains

Abstract

In order to evaluate different proportions of intercropping potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), Cabbage (Brassica oleracia var. capitata) and cluster bean(Cyamopsis tetragonalobus) with their sole cropping, an experiment was carried out at Horticultural Research Farm, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur under the AICRP project during rabi season in 2011–2012, using randomized complete block design with seven treatments and three replications of replacement intercropping with proportions 1: 1 and 2: 1 of Potato with Cabbage and Cluster bean along with three sole cropping treatments of potato, cabbage and cluster bean. The growth parameters of potatoviz. plant emergence (%), plant height (cm), number of shoots per plant, number of leaves per plant and yield attributesviz. total tuber yield (t/ha), marketable tuber yield (t/ha), total number of tuber per hectare and in grade of 25–50 g as well as 50–75 g tuber yield were recorded higher under sole cropping of potato. Among all intercropping system plant emergence (%), taller plant (cm), unmarketable yield (t/ha), total tuber yield (t/ha) number of tubers per plant, grade of 25–50 g and> 75g tuber yield were reported higher for Potato + cabbage (2: 1) intercropping system. However, numberofshoots per plant, number of leaves per plant and yield of 50–75 g tuber (t/ha) were found higher in Potato + cabbage (1: 1) intercropping system. In case of cluster bean and cabbage all the growth parameters and yield attributes were relatively higher under sole cropping of each crop which ultimately registered head and pod yield as compare to intercropping treatments. All the intercropping treatments showed yield advantage(LER>1) over sole cropping. Based on LER the maximum advantage reported from the intercropping of potato + cabbage was obtained when planted in 1: 1 row ratio.
