Varietal Performance of Soybean Against defoliators Pests Under Field Condition

Abstract

The field experiment was carried out during Kharif, 2010 to check the varietal performance of soybean against defoliators. The experiment was laid in randomized block design, replicated thrice. Ten varieties of soybeanviz, AMS 99–33, TAMS 98–21, JS 71–05, JS 93–05, MAUS 81, MACS 450, MAUS 71, MAUS 32, MAUS 47 and JS 335 (check) were included as treatments. The results revealed that, AMS 99–33 and JS 93–05 emerged as best performing variety as it recorded significantly superior yield and lower incidence of defoliators. Significant differences in population of Thysanoplusiaorichalceawere noticed in 35th SMW andof Spodopteralitura were observed in 31st, 32nd, 34th and 35th SMWs. Significantly lower larval population of T.orichalcea was recorded on MAUS81 and foundat par with AMS 99–33, JS 93–05, JS 71–05 and MAUS 47. Higher average population was noticed on MAUS 32 and MACS 450 which were found at par with each other. Significantly lower population of Spodopteralitura was noticed on MAUS 47, JS 7105, JS 93–05, MAUS 81, MAUS 71, AMS 99–33 and TAMS 98–21. Significantly higher population was noticed on JS 335 (check) and MAUS 32, found at par with each other. MACS 450 recorded significantly highest population of S. litura. The results on population of Spilosomaand Helicoverparevealed non significant differences among different varieties.
