Constructed wetlands with horizontal sub-surface flow are man-made systems that mimic the functions of natural wetlands for various types of wastewater treatment, subsurface flow constructed wetlands is low cost and low-maintenance technology for on-site treatment of domestic wastewater. Stronger relationships were found for inflow and outflow COD loadings. Wetland beds were prepared with locally available plants cattail (Typha sp.) and reed (Phragmites sp.). Treatment efficiency was evaluated for parameters such as BOD5, COD, TSS, TDS, TOC, Turbidity, N and PO4. For normal setup percent removal efficiency of BOD5, COD, TSS, TDS, TOC, Turbidity, N and PO4 is 27%, 96%, 40%, 22%, 45%, 58%, 44% and 18% respectively and for integrated setup 32%, 94%, 36%, 12%, 35%, 71%, 41% and 15% respectively. The t-Test analysis is carried out for overall treatment, and graph is obtained. Cost estimation for pilot study depicts that it is cost effective than conventional treatment plant.
