The study was carried to assess the trend and profitability of cultivating major millets like jowar, ragiand bajra in Karnataka using the secondary data obtained from DES, Bangalore. The results indicated negative trend for area of jowar, ragi and positive trend forbajra. The profitability of ragiand bajra has shown negative returns during the study period (2000–01 to 2011–12). While, jowar has shown positive returns during TE 2011. The returns per rupee of investment for all crops has shown d” one. Although unprofitable they have been cultivated from the point of fodder security for the livestock. Hence there is a need for incentive programs to promote these crops.
