Influence of Various Sowing Dates on Growth and Yield Attributes in Cotton cv. PKV-RAJAT

Abstract

The field experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2000–2001 at Departmental farm of Agronomy, Dr. PDKV., Akola with five treatments and four replications, laid out in design Randomized Block Design (RBD). The growth and developmental parameters such as number of squares, flowers, bolls and dry matter per plant at various stages viz 60, 90, 120, 150 and maturity were recorded. The significantly maximum number of squares at 60, 90, 120, 150 and maturity were recorded in treatment (D1) i.e. when sown at onset of monsoon (26th Met. Week) viz (12.35), (15.45), (8.57), (4.17) and (1.15), respectively followed by treatment (D2) i.e. when sown on 27th Met. Week. Whereas, the significantly minimum number of squares were recorded in treatment (D5) i.e. sown on 30th Met. Week, (3.17), (7.20), (3.92), (0.75) and (0.20) respectively followed by (D4) i.e. sown on 29th Met. Week. The significantly maximum number of flowers per plant at same stages were recorded in treatment (D1), (5.76), (13.25), (7.92), (3.59) and (1.52), respectively followed by treatment (D2). And the significantly minimum number of flowers per plant at same stages were retained the same trends, (0.82), (4.25), (3.50), (0.93) and (0.12) respectively. The positive correlation of growth and developments parameters was observed with dry matter per plant. So, the significantly maximum dry matter (g) per plant was also recorded in same trends, (34.20), (69.80), (112.90), (135.10) and (123.80) respectively.
