Effect of Sowing Dates and Varieties on Dry Matter Accumulation of Indian Mustard (Brassica juncea L.) in Himachal Pradesh.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of sowing dates and varieties on total biomass accumulation of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L.) during winter (rabi) season 2007–08 and 2008–09 at experimental farm of Department of Agronomy, Forages and Grassland Management CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur (HP). The experiment was carried out in Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) with three replications consisted four sowing dates viz., October 10, October 20, October 30 and November 9 and three varieties viz., RCC-4, Kranti and Varuna. Amongst, sowing dates, October 10 sown crop resulted into significantly higher total biomass as compared to crop sown on October 20, October 30 and November 9. The varieties RCC-4, Kranti and Varuna produced almost similar dry matter during both the years.
