Integrated Nitrogen Management in Pearl Millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L) R. Br. Emend Stuntz] During Summer Season

Abstract

An experiment was conducted at Agronomy Instructional Farm, C. P. College of Agriculture, S.D.A.U., Sardar krushinagar during summer, 2013. Ten nitrogen management treatments viz., T1: 100% RDN through fertilizer, T2: 100% RDN through FYM, T3: 100% RDN through castor cake, T4: 100% RDN through vermicompost, T5: 75% RDN through fertilizer + 25% RDN through FYM, T6: 75% RDN through fertilizer + 25% RDN through castor cake, T7: 75% RDN through fertilizer + 25% RDN through vermicompost, T8: 50% RDN through fertilizer + 50% RDN through FYM, T9: 50% RDN through fertilizer + 50% RDN through castor cake and T10: 50% RDN through fertilizer + 50% RDN through vermicompost were tried in randomized block design (RBD) with four replications. Pearl millet variety GHB 732 was used as a test crop. The crop fertilized with 75% RDN through fertilizer and 25% RDN through either FYM or castor cake produced significantly higher growth parameters, grain yield (2948 kg ha−1), straw yield (6248 kg ha−1) and economics. It also helped to sustain soil fertility.
