Medicinal Orchids: A Brief Review

Apart from aesthetic value, orchids are also used as flavouring agents, jewelries and asmedicine. Number of orchid species are mentioned in the chinease system, indian system i.e ayurvedic system of medicine to cure several ailment. Medicinal orchids are having novel pharmaceutical value; so it is harvested as wild from natural habitats. Although, many species are rich in medicinal property and used in folk medicines but extensive research on the active principle, its precise mechanism and safety profile of the plants as medicine is lagging. There is need to conserve and multiplication of these important medicinal orchids as ex-situ and in-situ
