Evaluation of Seed Treatment and Foliar Sprays of Some Insecticide for the Management of Leaf Roller/Capsule Borer and Bud Fly

Field studies were conducted during two consecutive karif seasons of 2011 and 2012 to evaluate seed treatment and combination of seed treatment with foliar spray of some insecticide for the management of leaf roller/capsule borer and bud fly of sesame at AICRP (Sesame) centre of College of Agriculture, JNKVV, Tikamgarh (M.P.). Finding of present studies indecated that only seed treatment viz., Imidacloprid 70 WS @7.5g/kg, Chlorpyriphos 20 EC @5 ml/kg seed and Thiamethoxam 25WG @5g/kg seed were not effectively to control the leaf roller/capsule borer and bud fly. In general, seed treatment with foliar application of insecticide viz., Profenophos 50 EC @2ml/l and NSKE 5% reduced the flower and pod borer damage as compared to control and those treatments that have only seed treatment and resulted in higher grain yield. The net returns (Rs 20627/ha) and B: C ratio (2.8) was maximum in seed treatment with Thiamethoxam 25WG @5g/kg seed followed by foliar application of NSKE 5%.
