Study on Cultural Characteristics of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Causing Anthracnose of Mango

Abstract

Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is an important pathogencausing anthracnose of mango. It was grown in eighteen different media to find out best supporting media for its growth. Among these media were used Richard's Agar (RA) medium supported highest growth and Corn Meal Agar with no growth. Oat Meal Agar (OMA), Nutrient Sucrose Agar (NSA) and Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) supported similar growth pattern. As Richard's Agar (RA) in solid medium, Richard's Broth (RB) supported highest growth of 563.33 mg followed by Nutrient Sucrose Broth (466.67 mg). Growth of the fungus increased as the days of incubation increases from two days up to twelve days and highest mean dry mycelial weight up to 250 mg was observed on twelve days of incubation period.
